THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA NEUROPSYCHOLOGY FORUM is pleased to sponsor the upcoming presentation
Wednesday, August 11, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Online Webinar: Live and Interactive
Norbert Ralph, PhD, MPH: Dr. Ralph is a neuropsychologist in private practice. He has conducted and supervised neuropsychological assessment with justice and evolved youth over his 40+ year professional career. He has published 40+ articles, blogs, reports, chapters, or books, many relevant to justice involved youth.
Justice-involved youth have high rates of various neuropsychological conditions. Adolescence is also a period of dramatic brain-based changes and neuropsychological development regarding increasing drive and risk-taking, social reasoning, emotional regulation, and "if-then" or contingency-based thinking. Some of these factors directly or indirectly contribute to probation involvement and problematic behaviors and emotional reactions. Understanding the role of these factors and their accurate assessment can lead to improved outcomes for youth regarding their prosocial development and decrease the likelihood of future probation involvement. The neuropsychological "lens" or perspective can better explain some problematic behaviors and provide a more evidence-based, realistic, and optimistic view of their prognosis. It can also provide an alternative to a more pessimistic narrative for these youth which can contribute to a self-fulfilling prophecy and increased incarceration rates. The presentation will discuss relevant neuropsychological research, and practical neuropsychologically based assessment and treatment methods for these youths.
