  Dr. Harriet Katz Zeiner is a clinical psychologist, a clinical neuropsychologist and a rehabilitation psychologist at the Palo Alto Veteran Affairs Health Care System, treating both veterans and active duty military personnel with neurological injuries. She is also a clinical assistant professor at Stanford School of Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Learning Objectives:

Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to identify the 6 types of catastrophic reaction given by patients with neurological impairment when cognitively overloaded.

2. Participants will learn how to link catastrophic reactions and/or physiological responses with the performance of cognitive constructs in patients with neurological impairments to increase patient-initiated performance of cognitive constructs independently.

3. Participants will be able to identify 4 separate categories of depressive reaction and the associated neuroanatomical sites necessary for intact function.

4. Which cognitive deficits need to be addressed first in individual psychotherapy with patients with neurological impairment, and why?

5. Describe at least 4 neuropsychologically-informed cognitive constructs and the associated maladaptive behaviors associated with them.
